    5. High throughput, low dust levels

High throughput, low dust levels Flexco skirting systems effectively stop material spillage at the transfer point Flexco offers various skirting systems to avoid loss of material in belt conveyor transfer areas in coal mines, steel mills and wood processing facilities. Fasteners combined with skirting systems effectively isolate the material on the belt without damaging the belt cover, enabling operators to easily reduce dust levels while increasing material throughput. Flexco supplies easy-to-install skirt clamps for a wide range of load levels. Flex-Lok skirt clamps are a new addition to the Flexco range: customised for various conveyor systems, they are even suitable for large and heavy-duty conveyance tasks. On the other hand, Flex-Lok Mini Clamps are ideal when space is limited – the rubber sealing strip is only 8 to 16 millimetres thick, while the thickness of the standard version is between 8 and 25 millimetres. Flex-Lok skirt clamps can be easily installed by one person, because the clamp plates position the retaining rod of the rubber sealing strip. The skirt clamps can be mounted diagonally or vertically on the conveyor structure. The Flex-Seal skirting system is a dynamic containment unit which completely seals the loading zone parallel to the belt. The system reduces dust levels by closing gaps through which material can spill. Problems such as belt damage and belt wander no longer occur. The thickness of the Flex-Seal rubber skirt varies between 8 and 19 millimetres with this solution. Flexco also offers a cost-effective solution that is especially suitable for confined spaces – the RMC1 skirting system. All three of these Flexco solutions are designed for easy installation – the clamp bolts are designed to allow the clamp wedge to rotate through 360°, locking it in place, and an additional anti-vibration clamp pin ensures that the clamp bolt remains in place even under extreme conditions. Service technicians can safely perform installation and maintenance work on the skirting system from the sides of the conveyor system. The individual system components are corrosion-resistant and highly resilient to ensure a long service life. In the case of all three systems, the skirt rubber exerts no tension at all on the belt, causing no premature wear or scratches on the belt cover. The Flexco range includes the rubber LRS15-R and LRS15 PU skirts, which are simply to install and quick to service. They offer highly effective solutions in combination with the fasteners. No bolt, nuts or additional special tools are required for assembly.

    6. High-purity fragmentation

      High-purity fragmentation

The low-contamination shock wave fragmentation process is suitable for processes with high purity requirements. Due to the use of acoustic shock waves and the low level of contact compared to conventional fragmentation methods, metal contamination is kept to a minimum (<1 ppm) during the treatment process. Due to the use of electrically generated shock waves, the shock wave fragmentation does not result in any form of direct mechanical interaction with the target materials, as in classical fragmentation methods, so that one can speak of a non-contact milling process. No contact with a solid state grinding body means there is also no increased wear during the processing of hard, abrasive materials. This makes it possible to efficiently process hard, abrasive materials without facing the problem of high wear. The shock wave method used by ImpulsTec generates comparatively few impurities due to erosion on the electrodes. In recent years, several different research projects allowed a significant amount of expertise to be gained in the low-contamination fragmentation of semiconductor materials and the processing of high-purity ceramics as well as glass products. The high-purity fragmentation of ceramic monoliths and various glass products can be mentioned here as an example. The low-contamination shock wave process can be used to obtain high-purity reusable material fractions. - Extremely high purity thanks to non-contact comminution; < 1 ppm metallic impurities without the use of chemicals • Individually adjustable target particle size • Homogeneous particle shape and narrow particle size distribution (low level of fines) • Low wear, even when treating abrasive materials • Freely scalable system concept through to customised complete systems

    9. How to Choose the Right Shaftless Spiral Conveyor?

How to Choose the Right Shaftless Spiral Conveyor?

Shaftless spiral conveyors are designed for the transport of otherwise difficult to handle materials, such as municipal dewatered sludge, wastewater screenings, grit, industrial sludges or other sticky, viscous, stringy materials. Available in two designs, U-trough for horizontal or inclines up to 30 degrees and octagonal (OK-trough) for steeper inclines or vertical transport. Shaftless conveyor can run up to 100% full, utilizing an almost full cross-section of a trough, no restrictions to impede material flow. If you are looking to transport up to 140m3/hr SPIRAC shaftless spiral conveyors are the right choice. When designing a shaftless screw conveyor system the following factors need to be considered: 1. Trough Size, length and design 2. Spiral diameter, pitch and model 3. Motor power and gearbox RPM 4. Conveyed material characteristics 5. Elevation angle of the conveyor 6. Feed method If you are looking to transport easy material horizontal or at a slight incline, we recommend a single section spiral. This kind of spiral is the lightest spiral type and can be used in applications with short lengths and low torque. The addition of a welded insert increases strength and efficiency by reducing material "fallback". It is commonly used for horizontal conveying and for inclines up to 45 degrees. This spiral is suitable for most applications including inclined conveying to transport sludges, screenings and grit. Especially sticky material, for example, some lime amended sludges, where a buildup of product under the spiral is a risk, we would recommend spirals with inserts and a scraping edge. The spiral types mentioned above are only the basic types of shaftless spiral conveyors we offer. There is also a wide choice of element cross-sections and spiral pitches and diameters to optimally match the required torque and performance parameters to your application. Selecting the right spiral type is crucial. Talk to SPIRAC about which spiral type will be right for you.

    10. Hygienic, leak-proof, efficient: innovative bagging of potato starch

Hygienic, leak-proof, efficient: innovative bagging of potato starch

At Danish starch manufacturer AKD Toftlund, part of the KMC Group, reliable filling and sealing processes are ensured through the combination of a high-performance air packer, intelligent bag inspection and patented ultrasonic sealing technology from Greif-Velox. AKD Toftlund produces potato starch and modified starches for customers in more than 80 countries. Production runs at high throughput on a BVP air packer, filling up to 800 valve bags of 25 kilograms per hour. In the past, incorrectly opened or positioned bag valves caused filling errors, product loss, dust formation and increased cleaning effort. Faulty bags were often detected too late, after filling had already started. To prevent incorrect filling, the system was upgraded with ValvoDetect sensor technology. Before filling, sensors check whether the valve is correctly opened and positioned. Defective bags are automatically rejected so that only properly filled bags continue in the process. After commissioning, AKD Toftlund and Greif-Velox analyzed all rejected bags in detail. Three main causes were identified: valves sticking to the bag bottom, unfavorable valve lengths causing twisting, and material or bonding issues. Based on these findings, alternative bag designs were tested. A shortened valve length combined with a modified adhesive dot proved particularly effective, reducing the reject rate by up to 90 percent. For secure sealing, the plant uses ValvoSeal ultrasonic technology. The patented waffle-structured weld seam offers significantly higher strength than conventional methods and reliably prevents dust leakage. In the double-seam ValvoSeal Safe version, absolute tightness is ensured even for critical products. Together, ValvoDetect and ValvoSeal provide a stable, clean and efficient filling process, reducing waste, cleaning effort and reject costs while ensuring consistently high packaging quality.
