Online moisture measurement
As a manufacturer of various online moisture measurement systems in the field of process control, we offer you the optimal solution for each application. Online moisture measurement on bulk materials The MicroPolar measures the moisture content of a wide variety of bulk solids online. The measurement takes place on the conveyor belt, bunker, silo, or on a shaft. The microwave transmission technology provides a noncontact measurement of the entire material cross-section. This results in an accurate and representative online measurement for quality assurance and process optimization. Typical areas of application for all kind of bulk materials are found in mining, power plants, coking plants, chemistry, building materials, wood and paper industry.

Radiometric Bulk Flow Measurement
Berthold‘s radiometric measuring systems monitor bulk flow and totalized mass in a non-contacting manner. They are used in many industries, such as mining, paper production, building materials and power as the measurement solution can be applied to all conveyor systems. Radiometry is often the only reliable method for determining flow rates. Our measuring systems are particularly suitable for monitoring loading processes, dosing and mixing processes, as well as production control. Capable of measuring the current conveying capacity, totalized mass (tonnage), and batch processes. The measurement can be carried out with any size of material, ranging from powders and granulates all the way to large lumps of rock and logs. The typical measuring range is between 100 kg/h and 1000 t/h. After a simple calibration, our systems operate with high precision for many years, with a reproducibility of ±1%. Fully non-contact – the measurement is uninfluenced by wind, vibrations, dust, dirt, fluctuating belt tension or fluctuating bulk densities. Retrofitting to existing conveyor systems is possible without any problems.

Measurement solutions for power generation applications
Noncontact measurements from Berthold find application in both coal-fired and biomass power plants. Using our sophisticated online moisture analyzers our customers gain real-time information on the raw material moisture and are therefore able to improve the boiler efficiency. Additional information about the burning process is provided by our carbon in fly ash analyzers. To better control the flue gas treatment, we offer carbon in fly ash analyzers of milk of lime or density measurement of gypsum suspension. We also provide robust and non-contacting bulk flow meters monitoring how much material is fed into the boiler. This is the only way to ensure a controlled supply of fuel, which ultimately leads to a lower consumption of raw material. Radiometric level measurements or switches are part of our product range as well.

Measurement solutions for food & beverage applications
Berthold's microwave measuring systems are specifically designed for use in the food industry to measure the water content or dry matter of various products online, such as: sugar, butter, caramel or cheese. This allows users to precisely determine the water content of a product, thus meeting the strict quality requirements and optimizing production processes - resulting in consistent quality, less waste and significant cost savings. Our radiometric measurements are also used successfully in the food industry. Non-contact level and density measuring systems are normally used when the process conditions are so difficult that conventional techniques are unable to perform satisfactorily. The radiation intensity used in these measurements has no influence on the product being measured. Optimize your process with the density measurement from Berthold
Our density measurement systems are noncontact and maintenance-free. They provide accurate density and concentration readings of liquids such as acids, alkalis, solutions, slurries, and suspensions. The density measuring systems is clamped to the outside of existing pipelines. They can be used on pipe diameters from 25 mm to over 1000 mm, on chutes and on vessels. Berthold's density measurement is radiometric and therefore ideally suited for use in extreme measurement environments, such as with abrasive, highly viscous, or highly corrosive media, or even in the case of vibrations. It is completely unaffected by the flow velocity of the medium.

DuoSeries LB 474 is the new radiometric density system from Berthold based on real 2-wire technology. The density measuring system DuoSeries determines density with high accuracy and repeatability. In most countries, the water content of butter is subjected to strict monitoring. According to one regulation, for example, the water content of butter in Europe may not exceed 16 %. With the latest microwave technology, it is possible to monitor the water or solid content during production in real time, which enables early detection of deviations. It also ensures that the dairy products comply with all legal requirements and that the product meets expectations.
