About us
Inside Excellence - Thermal Separation
We are number 1 in thin film evaporation technology and a global leader in drying and high viscosity technology. We develop and construct plants and equipment for such processes as the evaporation, drying and processing of highly viscous materials. Solutions that are exactly as you need them – exceptionally precise, efficient and, when necessary, highly innovative.
With our plants, systems and reconceptualised solutions we have been setting standards in thermal separation technology for many years – and are your specialist for outstanding processing of mixtures which are difficult to handle.
Products
Short Path Evaporator
The SMS short path evaporators guarantee excellent results when evaporating, concentrating, distilling or devolatilising temperature-sensitive, high-boiling mixtures. The internal condenser minimises the pressure loss due to its short distance from the evaporation surface. Therefore, short path evaporators can operate under fine vacuum and with correspondingly low boiling temperatures. Even extremely heat-sensitive products, such as vitamins and flavourings, can be distilled without causing any thermal damage.

Thin Film Evaporator
SMS combines more than 60 years of experience in manufacturing and application of thin film evaporators of the companies Luwa, Samesreuther and Canzler. Thin film evaporators are available in an unchallenged variety of different rotor designs, horizontal or vertical orientation as well as cylindrical and conical shape for co-current and counter-current vapour flow. Therefore, they are perfectly adapted to a multitude of separation tasks.

CFT Dryer
The Combined Fluidisation Technology dryer (CFT dryer) offers an economic process for sticky products. CFT dryers combine the advantages of convective fluidised bed drying with contact drying. The CFT works with a hot mechanically fluidised bed. The feed material is distributed into this bed. It is fluidised by a rotating paddle system. Inside the fluidised bed the wet product is evenly distributed throughout the dry product. The volatiles evaporate instantly in contact with the hot particles, i.e. new solids are created at the location of evaporation.

Thin Film Dryer
Horizontal thin film dryers are continuously operating contact dryers and are used for a broad range of applications under vacuum, atmospheric pressure and overpressure. They consist of a horizontally arranged heated shell with end covers and a rotor with bolted-on blades. The wet product fed through the inlet nozzle is picked up by the rotor blades, applied to the hot wall and simultaneously conveyed towards the outlet nozzle at the opposite end of the body.
