Sustainability & resource efficiency

10.00 - 10.30 a.m.

Lithium batteries are being used in ever increasing quantities. In addition to the production of new batteries, their recycling is also becoming increasingly important. In this presentation, we will show how mixing and drying processes are used both at the beginning and at the end of a battery’s service life.
In the first part, the special purity requirements for the production of cathode active material and their practical realisation are presented. In the second part, an innovative high-temperature process for the thermal treatment of ‘black mass’ from shredded batteries will be presented, which is currently being developed in co-operation with a university.

10.30 - 11.00 a.m.

The requirements for all types of powdered raw materials are increasing not only in terms of technical quality, but also in terms of sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
In particular, the comminution of powders in the ultra-fine range down to the sub-micron range requires high specific energy consumption. This is why energy-efficient processes are particularly important here. Spiral jet mills with integrated separators are one way of meeting this need.

11.00 - 11.30 a.m.

Industrial companies are under increasing pressure to manufacture products in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. The environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives form the guidelines for overcoming future global challenges. With the development of the Polytube technology, the Italian WAMGROUP shows how existing products can be further developed using innovative technologies and improved in several areas at once. The SILOTOP Polytube outperforms conventional filters in terms of energy consumption, space requirements and dust emissions, thus offering users a future-proof solution.

Bulk material handling & processing

12.00 - 12.30 pm

The safety requirements for handling bulk materials are constantly increasing. More and more raw materials are being categorised in higher risk classes, or there are new technologies that require the handling of toxic substances (battery production). HECHT Technologie GmbH has almost 40 years of experience in the safe handling of bulk materials. The presentation will start with a short basic information on containment and the current definition of Occupational Exposure Limits (OEL) and the Occupational Exposure Band (OEB). Examples will then be used to show how bulk materials stored in big bags, containers or drums can be emptied or filled up to an OEB 5 level. Samplers that can be used to take completely dust-free samples will also be presented.

Carbon black bagging is considered a dirty business. With VeloVac technology, Greif-Velox supports leading carbon black companies worldwide to achieve clean and efficient packaging results. This reduces logistics costs, the CO2 footprint and improves the image through dust-free packaging.
Together with the customer Birla Carbon, customised paper bags were developed in an engineering project and a unique combination of machine and bag was achieved.
The presentation shows the path from concept to solution and the positive effects.

Björn Voges
Marketing Manager
Greif-Velox Maschinenfabrik GmbH

13.00 - 13.30

The economic efficiency of production plants is determined by operating costs, maintenance and repair costs, as well as downtime costs. Wear and corrosion are the most important causes of failure. Most system damage is caused by no, insufficient or incorrect wear protection and a lack of maintenance. The targeted limitation of wear to easily replaceable components (wear parts) is a significant way of increasing the service life of machines and equipment, saving costs and preventing production downtime.

Speaker:
Detlef Bauer
Managing Director
PUCEST protect GmbH

1.30 - 2.00 pm

We present an innovative containment concept that is used in battery cell production. It enables safe, productive and space-saving production by avoiding interfaces instead of changing them. This significantly improves containment while maintaining high accuracy in powder dosing. The concept offers solutions to increase productivity, reduce space requirements and fulfil safety requirements at the same time.

What do adhesives and toothpaste have in common?
In their production, powders and liquids must be brought together in a suitable process.
Both mixing and dispersing processes can be realised in a batch process as well as in continuous inline production.
Which process design should be used in a specific case depends on various factors.
The technologies from mixing and dispersion technology specialist ystral enable both batch and inline production and cover a wide range of process options.

The innovative system screen lining introduced in 2022 by Steinhaus GmbH – the inventor of polyurethane and system screens – has proven itself in numerous applications.
Quick installation and removal even in inaccessible places, high work safety, narrow blind zones, installation from below… all these advantages are enthusiastically received by our customers.
You too will be impressed by our magnet-based ‘Steinhaus MLock’ system screen, which is self-centring in all three dimensions.

Screening processes are also part of standard process engineering when processing toxic products. For operators, this means the strictest safety and hygiene regulations and compliance with limit values for substance contamination in the plant atmosphere. The demands on the production equipment are correspondingly high.
We will show you how screening machines can be used safely and efficiently in containment environments. Important aspects here are the connection of the machine to the process, cleanability and changing the screen feeder without breaking the containment.

Occupational safety, fire and explosion protection

14.00 – 14.30 a.m.

The use of lithium-ion batteries is increasing, as is the number of illegally disposed batteries and old devices. E-cigarettes and countless small appliances are exacerbating the problem. The result is a massive increase in fires in recycling with downtimes, fire-fighting operations and enormous material damage. Prevention is more favourable in the long run.
Where exactly are the danger points in plants, during transport and storage? We explain which hazards occur in which areas of the plant. Using practical examples, we explain how risks can be detected at an early stage in order to prevent fires or contain them more quickly.

14.30 – 15.00 a.m.

Electrostatic discharges represent a considerable potential hazard and can cause explosions. This presentation sheds light on the development of electrostatic charges and shows how earthing measures act as preventive explosion protection. Practical examples will be used to explain the earthing of silo vehicles, containers and plant components. The importance of regular inspections of earthing measures and the responsibilities and legal requirements are also discussed. Simple but effective measures can minimise such sources of danger and ensure safe operation.
